Merlin is a battery specialist and at the very forefront of technological developments with high capacity monoblocks for boats, special vehicles, static power systems and portable power applications.

Our battery products can be split into three distinct technologies:

Semi-Sealed Lead Acid

Our Merlin Powerpack range of batteries are an ideal choice for those looking for good performance at a reasonable cost. These calcium-calcium batteries are primarily designed for cyclic auxiliary applications but also have excellent engine start capability.

• Semi sealed to prevent spillage and electrolyte contamination
• Magic eye provides "at a glance" battery state information
• Fully maintenance free
• High quality manufacture
• Low sulphation rate

VRLA AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) Batteries

Valve regualted AGM batteries were pioneered originally for military aircraft applications where power weight and reliability were paramount. 

Lifeline and Odyssey are two of the world's leading AGM battery manufacturers. Lifeline are mainly recognised for thick plate, heavy duty, cyclic batteries and Odyssey for thin plate engine start blocks. Merlin can advise on which battery is best for your application based on many years of in-depth experience.

AGM's offer the following benefits:

• Non-spillable. All the electrolyte is absorbed within the glass mat inside the battery
• Maintenance free
• Can be mounted and used in any orientation (not inverted) and do not gas during normal operation (safe to be installed in occupied compartments)
• Compression during manufacturing leads to a high density and excellent vibration resistance
• Very low internal resistance - allowing high cranking and recharge currents
• Very low self discharge for standby applications
• Superior cyclic life compared to most flooded or gel batteries

High Capacity Lithium-Ion (Phosphate) Batteries

Lithium-Ion batteries are limited in application, but offer very specific benefits. For example their comparable cyclic life can be up to four times a normal battery, they are two thirds the size and around half the weight.

It is only very recently it was possible to produce large monoblocks with the development of cathode materials that address some of the serious safety issues associated with many conventional Lithium-Ion products.
