Merlin manufactures and distributes several different products for effectively, accurately and efficiently managing the charge and discharge to and from multiple battery banks in mobile applications. We have both solutions for the marine, automotive and military markets.
BEP Marine VSR's (Voltage Controlled Relays) & Relay Clusters
BEP's VSR's (or voltage controlled relays) are our simplest and most cost effective split charging product.
- Easy to install
- Not subject to voltage losses leading to inefficient split charging like blocking diodes and selector switches
- Activated by voltage not by ignition affording excellent discharge protection for the starter battery
- Internal time buffer to prevent "relay cycling" when auxiliary batteries are heavily discharged
BEP VSR's are available as a stand alone module or as part of a pre-wired "cluster" along with battery isolator switches. Clusters are a popular solution for marine customers, reducing wiring costs and installation time.
Merlin Smartbank
Our Smartbank system is designed as a more comprehensive (VSR type) solution for professional customers. The individual voltages for split charge engagement and disengagement are adjustable with Smartbank as well as a "hold timer" for better control where flat batteries are sometimes a problem.
Smartbank dynamically adjusts its operating sequence based on how voltages are rising and falling based on a proprietory battery behavioural model. This leads the product to be far less subject to nuisance behaviour associated with the voltage dips and spikes present in mobile electrical systems. Smartbank is available in both component form for vehicles and as a pre-wired sub-assembly for boats. It is also the heart of our standard electrical system offering for rapid response, emergency service vehicles. It is suited for managing either two or three battery bank systems and incorporates its own "emergency starting" facility.
Merlin Powerbank
Powerbank is in effect, a much more sophisticated version of Smartbank with infinately more functionality. In addition to better voltage accuracy and an upgraded "intelligent" operating system for split charging, Powerbank is completely programmable via windows based software with an in-built diagnostics program for maintenance. As well as managing the charge and discharge of up to four battery banks, it also has the following capabilities:

- Independent Flat Battery Protection For All Battery Channels
- Emergency Battery Parallel
- Programmable Alarms and Alarm Outputs
- Event Datalogging
Powerbank may be the most flexible and comprehensive system for primary battery management available in the world today. Every aspect of its operation can be tailored for the application allowing us to use one Powerbank control hub for all of our marine, automotive and miltary mobile power systems.
